personal style | pattern mixing and such

i'm a huge fan of What Not To Wear. it was on that show where i was first introduced to pattern mixing. i gotta be honest and say i wasn't feelin' it. at all.

no matter what Clinton and Stacy put together, it just didn't make sense. nothing but denim and a print. and technically, that's not considered mixing because denim is a (solid) neutral. go figure.

one of the awesome things about embedding yourself in the style space is the inspiration you get from your peers. courage and confidence comes into play too. you see things on others you admire and somehow, you're able to translate those looks into your own personal style.

there are two bloggers who immediately come to mind when i think of daring print mixed outfits. the first is  Fashionista Next Door. never have i seen plaid and dots - worn at the same time! - look so good. Eboni makes it appear so effortless.

the other is Saucy Glossie. i would describe Lindsey's style as classically trendy. her outfits are modern, with a bit of edge sometimes, yet always timeless.

one of these days i'll get there, but until then...

i'm taking comfortable risks

determined not to force anything that may look good on the outside, but leaves me feeling less than empowered on the inside.

i felt great wearing this outfit!

having my prints on opposite ends and not touching was the reason why. i don't think i'm ready for that...just yet. but i do feel myself wanting to go in that direction.

the black tank balanced the outfit and i went with brown flip-flops to keep with the not-so-matchy-matchy feel.

i'm headed to San Antonio next month to facilitate a leadership retreat for a client and some variation of this outfit will go along with me for hanging out on the River Walk.

everything you see here is old, with the exception of the 3.50 sunglasses. shoes and shorts from JC Penney (clearance), Wal-Mart tank, and scarf from Sasha. if i had to guess, i'd say the entire outfit was around the $35 range.

who or what influences you to take a leap of faith with fashion?!
